Djawas is an old restaurant. Spelling it still faithfully follow the spelling when first established. At approximately the 1960's, this restaurant is one of my father's favorite. Anyway, if you want to eat rice kabuli, there is no other place to order it, unless Djawas.
In those days, still located at Jalan Djawas Parch, Kampung Melayu - bermukimnya where people of Arab descent in Semarang. This restaurant is directly synonymous with Arabic cuisine. "This restaurant has been around since the Dutch colonial era," so said my father first. "That is when the merchant ships are still anchored in the Kampung Melayu near there."
Unfortunately, the tidal sea water and the declining popularity makes Djawas then like a nomad - moved around to various places in Hyderabad, before then "anchored" in Ungaran.
Now, restaurants are relayed by Fauzi Djawas, third generation, who still maintain the tradition. One tradition is to make oil samin Djawas own. And this is the key that makes cooking steady. No wonder when oil was much samin Djawas ordered by customers to cook at home.
However, because the wife is cooking Fauzi is the person of Pakistani descent, be a gagrak cooking now shifted towards the Arab-Pakistan. Pakistani cuisine favored here is gule gule heikel aka goat legs. Gule heikel dicocol with this delicious bread that was rolled fluffy.
The most popular dish is rice Djawas kabuli (USD 20 thousand), complete with a piece of fried goat. Marinade rich, fragrant aroma, with flavors of authentic Arabic. Especially with a tasty fried goat tender. Mak nyuss!
There are also fried goat (USD 15 thousand) are favored by many people. Actually, the ingredients are very similar to kabuli rice. The difference is more pervasive marinade kabuli rice because rice is cooked from raw. Most guests are not satisfied with a piece of goat meat that came with kabuli rice or fried rice, so the need to bolster the message portion of goat or lamb fries priced USD $ 30 thousand per serving. For those who still have a taste of Java, is also available tongseng and tengkleng (watery curry.)
Beverages are most suitable for this machtig dishes are typical of the Arab spice tea (with cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and milk) are so delicious.
Before I show this restaurant at the Culinary Trans few years ago, kabuli rice is only a weekend menu. Since its popularity terkatrol by Culinary Tour, now no day without rice in Djawas kabuli
